Yale’s Heart & Soul Project puts residents at the center of community planning
The Yale Heart & Soul initiative is demonstrating how resident-driven community development begins with listening. Led by the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, local volunteers are engaging people of all ages to identify the values, traditions, and priorities that matter most to the Yale community. Rather than relying on traditional public meetings, the project meets residents where they are—at local events, businesses, and gathering places—to ensure every voice is heard. The article highlights how Community Heart & Soul fosters meaningful civic engagement, strengthens community connections, and helps small towns create shared action plans that reflect local priorities, preserve community character, and build a thriving future for generations to come.
